What is the difference? Social Distancing, Isolation and Quarantine.

What is Social Distancing?

This is keeping your distance from another person. Social distancing should be practiced by everyone infected or not infected.

Social Distancing includes:
  • Avoiding Handshakes
  • Avoiding Crowds
  • Keeping at least 2meters away from people while outside
  • Last but not least staying at home.

What is Isolation?

This is to stop the infected people to spread the virus to healthy people. Isolation means completely staying away from other people only your caretaker can see provided that they have personal protective equipment.

There is a special wing for that in many modern hospitals. This can be done for at least 14 days in the case of COVID-19 infection or until it is confirmed that you are completely free of the virus.

What is Quarantine?

This is a lot like Isolation but for a group of people. And it is a preventive method. Quarantine is used when a group of people is suspected of being exposed. By restricting their movement we can decrease the chance of them spreading the disease. Quarantined people are kept until they clear of the contagious diseases they suspected of.

In this post, I tried to explain briefly about the difference between Social distancing, Isolation, and Quarantine.

Can animals get infected with COVID-19?

Does the new coronavirus(COVID-19) affect animals? The answer is yes. Animals can get infected with a virus. Some researches are suggesting that cats and dogs can get infected by the virus. A research conducted in china stated that a dog has tested positive after remaining with its owners who were sick with the virus. However, the dog wasn't showing any symptoms of the illness. Currently, there is no evidence that the virus can be spread through dogs. There is some interesting news that a tiger in the Bronx zoo in New York has tested positive. The tiger was tested after it fell ill along with six other tigers and lions. This definitely can shed some light on whether or not animals could get infected with the coronavirus.  The best way to protect yourself and your pets from getting infected is prevention . Restricting any contact with infected pets or persons is the best way to keep yourself and your pets safe. To get a more in-depth view on the topic visit: Co...
