COVID-19 (coronavirus) -What is Coronavirus(COVID-19)

COVID-19(coronavirus)

What is a coronavirus and where did it come from?

Coronavirus is a positive single-stranded RNA virus. Its name came from a Latin word corona meaning "crown". It is an encapsulated virus and helical virus. In most cases, it causes milder symptoms in patients like the common cold.

The newly found coronavirus(COVID-19) is a different type of strand that has never been seen before. It was first discovered in Wuhan, China. The first case dates back to Nov 17, 2019.

It is a respiratory illness so it is transmitted through microdroplets from coughing or sneezing.
In addition to that, the virus can stay in on materials like metal, windows, doors, etc for more than 24 hours or more. So that is the reason it's spreading too rapidly throughout the world and caused a pandemic.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19

So the symptoms of coronavirus can range from mild to severe.

How do we prevent from spreading

We can prevent the spread of the virus by doing these simple tasks.
  • Washing our hands thoroughly with soap for about 20 secs or using alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
  • Avoiding contact with a person with the above symptoms
  • covering our mouth with a tissue or our flexed elbow while coughing or sneezing
  • Avoiding crowded spaces
  • By staying home
  • By keeping our distance at least 1-2meters away from the person

Can animals get infected with COVID-19?

Does the new coronavirus(COVID-19) affect animals? The answer is yes. Animals can get infected with a virus. Some researches are suggesting that cats and dogs can get infected by the virus. A research conducted in china stated that a dog has tested positive after remaining with its owners who were sick with the virus. However, the dog wasn't showing any symptoms of the illness. Currently, there is no evidence that the virus can be spread through dogs. There is some interesting news that a tiger in the Bronx zoo in New York has tested positive. The tiger was tested after it fell ill along with six other tigers and lions. This definitely can shed some light on whether or not animals could get infected with the coronavirus.  The best way to protect yourself and your pets from getting infected is prevention . Restricting any contact with infected pets or persons is the best way to keep yourself and your pets safe. To get a more in-depth view on the topic visit: Co...
