Can animals get infected with COVID-19?

Does the new coronavirus(COVID-19) affect animals?

The answer is yes. Animals can get infected with a virus. Some researches are suggesting that cats and dogs can get infected by the virus. A research conducted in china stated that a dog has tested positive after remaining with its owners who were sick with the virus. However, the dog wasn't showing any symptoms of the illness. Currently, there is no evidence that the virus can be spread through dogs.

There is some interesting news that a tiger in the Bronx zoo in New York has tested positive. The tiger was tested after it fell ill along with six other tigers and lions. This definitely can shed some light on whether or not animals could get infected with the coronavirus.

The best way to protect yourself and your pets from getting infected is prevention. Restricting any contact with infected pets or persons is the best way to keep yourself and your pets safe.
